Welcome to my new blog, Simply Divine...FINALLY!

Updated: Jan 21

OMGosh!! It feels so good to say that and see it finally manifested...MY OWN BLOG!!

This here has been a long time coming. I'm thankful that I have this space to share all the crazy, complex yet simple connecting dots that define who I am, what I love and why I do what I do! Many have asked for years, 'when are you going to start your blog?' Well, today IS the day and I can only hope and pray that you'll feel the passion and thought behind every word you read. I hope that this blog brings you great joy, informs, educates, enlightens, encourages and inspires you to pursue your purpose unapologetically. I want you to leave this space laughing out loud, renewed and filled with a new vigor to enjoy the journey as you LIVE, LEARN, GROW and fulfill your destiny with purpose on purpose.

Simply Divine is a refreshing, delightfully engaging, and sometimes comical blog (and vlog) about dining out, at-home cooking, interior design, wine, coffee, the restaurant & hospitality industries, entrepreneurship, travel, marriage, family and faith through the lens of a Black woman over 40. I am that Black woman!

I am super excited to share my blog debut on the same herstoric day that Kamala Harris became the first WOMAN of color to serve in the second highest position in the history of these United States of America!! And, in her words, "...will not be the last." Leading up to this glorious day, her fans and followers made grand plans to celebrate her in true Kamala fashion, chucks and pearls, a style that has become synonymous with our new VP. One Facebook group in particular, which I am a proud member of, created by Hope Aloaye, Wear Pearls on January 20, 2021, which I am member of, has brought together well over 400,000 women from all over the country, from all nationalities and ethnicities to celebrate this glass-ceiling-breaking, history making day. The beautiful rainbow of women loving on each other, encouraging one another - sharing positivity and light is an exemplary homage to what this day represents as Amanda Gorman so eloquently articulated in her inaugural poem,

"...We close the divide because we know to put our future first, we must first put our differences aside. We lay down our arms so we can reach out our arms to one another.

We seek harm to none and harmony for all."

Vice President Kamala Harris has sparked a fire of hope that has encouraged women from all walks of life to never stop believing in themselves and to keep moving towards their dreams. I am one of those women. Here's the deal, the launch of my blog date was intentional. This day will be forever etched in my memory as the day of new beginnings - for Vice President Kamala Harris who will undoubtedly embrace this role fiercely and compassionately and 'be of service to all mankind'. And, most certainly for me - a contributing writer for the Chicago Defender; the owner of Divine Dine Food Tours, the first and only 100% Black, woman-owned food tour agency in Chicago; the creative director, buyer and CEO of Divine320, an online gift box company; and now an OFFICIAL blogger.

Stay connected and I promise we'll bee BFFs in no time. Meanwhile, here are a few fun facts about me: I am a mother of three beautiful children (two daughters, 21 and 19; the one & only son aka "the brother", 6, I know, I already know what y'all thinking), wife of one distinguished gentleman who's a buck over 50 (yep yep, he snatched up a tender roni LOLOLOL) and a fairly new grandmother aka "Gigi" of the most beautiful granddaughter ever created. Born in Chicago, mostly raised in the Chatham-Avalon neighborhood on the south side, shout out to 79th & Anthony. I currently live in South Shore with my family and may or may not have been known to feed the neighborhood cat which my girls have affectionately named "Reese" who may or may not be occasionally waiting on our steps to be fed and eh'em talked to. As you read above, my plate is pretty full and I wouldn't have it any other way. I love God and I love church. I love singing and believe that other than writing, God has also given me this gift to encourage others. Now this, a Simply Divine exclusive, and I promise no one who knows me will believe me: I've been singing mostly all my life and still to this day I am a ball of nerves. Every time I get in front of the mic, I literally cringe. True story. If I'm lyin', I'm flyin' and I ain't got noooo wings! I am an introverted extrovert (that is really a thing). I can adjust to any social setting with smiles and excitement no matter how badly I do not want to be there. For those of you inclined to tune out when I mentioned God, please don't. This is not a faith-based blog, however, I am a Christian so a lot of my writing and perspective will reflect that part of me. Not sorry at all.

The plan: to provide you with an enjoyable 1 to 5 minute read, once per week (maybe two), every Wednesday; to share with you my personal insights and experiences on all the things I love, I am passionate about and that matter a great deal to me - the things that truly makeup who I really am and how I flow.

This blog will most definitely give you a glimpse of my life, my journey - the good, the bad, the crazy, and the ugly. I promise y'all that we will smile, laugh, cry, oooh and ahhh, and scream in unison 'what in the basement level of hell is happening here' and I wouldn't have it any other way.

Cheers to new beginnings for all of us! I thank everyone who took the time to share in this milestone moment with me! Get ready to ride this ride with me!! Please feel free to leave a comment, words of encouragement or questions below (be nice or be honest, lolol just no profanity or vulgarity, so serious!).

Please share Simply Divine with your family, friends and colleagues! Thank you!
